Another good year for wine ?

If the current warm weather continues over the summer, it looks as though 2005 could be another great year for wine here in Gascony.
Our local vigneron, Michel, at Domaine les Acacias in Bezolles, told us that the cold winter and steady rain during February has meant that there has been very little disease on the vines this year. Combined with a very hot spell just recently, when the grapes are beginning to grow rapidly, this could mean that we are set for some more lovely wines following the vendage in Autumn.
Michel specialises in white wines, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, but has recently added Merlot to his list. His sweet white wine dessert wine (Petit Manseng) has won various awards during recent years and he is now listed in the Guide Hachette (one of only a few producers in the Gers to be given this accolade)
If you're down this way, why not drop in and buy a few bottles - they also do some mean armagnac and eau de vie !!
