What's in a name ?
Thanks to one of our recent guests, we have at last discovered what the name "Mounon" relates to. He was visiting the Armagnac museum in Condom and noticed that the large beam over the Armagnac press was called a Mounon.
We had always assumed up until now that our property 'Mounon du Nord' was just a name with no particular significance (like "Hilltop view" say in England). Together with our next door neighbours, whose house is called Mounon du Sud, the two properties were originally one (just called Mounon and shown as such on old local maps) so perhaps there were connections with armagnac making years ago.
There is also a Rue de Mounon in Condom so it somehow all fits.
There are water wells in our two gardens, so it's something we shall now investigate further to discover what else was going on here in years gone by. I'll let you know how we get on.
By the way, it's still hot (35C + yesterday) so it should be another good year for the local wines if it carries on like this.
